Gintarė Adomaitytė


    Gintarė Adomaitytė (b. 1957 in Kaunas) is a prose writer and essayist. She graduated from Vilnius University with a degree in journalism and has worked on numerous publications. She has been an independent writer since 1999. Adomaitytė writes prose for children and adults, screenplays for documentary and art films, and radio plays. She works with the weekly Šiaurės Atėnai, which publishes her essays.
    Adomaitytė is a member of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union as well as IBBY. She is a two-time recipient of the IBBY prize for best book for young readers – in 2001 for The House of Dragonflies, her book for adolescents, and in 2003 for her children’s book Tales from the City of Winds. In 2003, she received the Vytautas Tamulaitis Prize for manuscripts of tales.
    Adomaitytė lives in Vilnius.
