Vytautas V. Landsbergis (b. 1962 in Vilnius) completed his studies in Lithuanian philology at Vilnius University and studied film directing at the Shota Rustaveli Theatre Institute in Tbilisi, Georgia. He extended his knowledge of cinema with Jonas Mekas at the Anthology Film Archives in New York, later working with Krzysztof Kieslowski and Krzysztof Zannussi in Poland. Landsbergis has published three books of poetry, six books of tales for children, and has written four plays, three of which he himself has directed in various theatres in Lithuania. His 1993 book of tales entitled Brownnoser’s Tales was selected as the year’s best book for children. Landsbergis founded the A PROPOS film and video studio, which produces documentary and art films. In his fifteen years of cinematography, Landsbergis has created eighteen documentary and two art films. He created Jonukas ir Grytutė (Jonukas and Grytutė), his most recent art film for children, based on a tale by the Brothers Grimm, in 2002.
Authors' Voice Most of the time serious people tend to do very serious things. I also wanted to dedicate my life to doing serious things, but it didn’t work no matter what I did. Then I noticed a strange truth – that you’re most likely to succeed when you’re not trying to do something for real, but when you’re doing it just for the hell of it. Maybe that’s how God created the Universe, because if he had been doing it for real he would have created us perfect.
