Subsidies for Translation

ATTENTION! THE PROCEDURES HAVE CHANGED FOR BOTH THE TRANSLATION AND SAMPLE TRANSLATION SUBSIDY CONTESTS.
Books from Lithuania supports the translation of Lithuanian literature into other languages and provides funding for translation fees.

International publishers who plan to publish a translation of a work by a Lithuanian author are invited to participate in the Translation Subsidy Program contest. Publishers will receive partial or entire financial support for translations. Funding will be provided for the translation of original works of fiction, children’s literature, culturally significant texts, and academic works in the humanities (philosophy, literary criticism, essays, history, etc.). Subsidies will be given only for unpublished books. Priority will be given to translations of original literary works (prose and poetry) and also to authors whose work will appear for the first time in a foreign language.
All writers, translators, and publishers of Lithuanian literature, residing both in Lithuania and abroad, are invited to participate in the Sample Translation Subsidy contest. Funding will be provided for the translation of excerpts of original works of fiction, children’s literature, culturally significant texts, and academic works in the humanities (philosophy, literary criticism, essays, history, etc.). Priority will be given to the translations of excerpts of original literary works (prose and poetry).
Previously, applications for the Translation and Sample Translation Subsidies Contests were accepted twice during the year: spring and autumn. Now we anticipate only one stage of application review in the fall, during which time a decision will be made about the books and excerpts receiving funding in the upcoming year. Therefore, we encourage everyone who has plans, ideas, or thoughts about participating in the aforementioned contests to do so before October 1 of this year.
Information about the aforementioned programs and necessary documents can be found below. We can also be contacted by telephone +370 5 261 8741, mobile +370 676 41066, or email info@booksfromlithuania.lt.
We look forward to active participation!

Translators, publishers and writers of Lithuanian literature – residing in Lithuania or abroad – are eligible to apply. Funding will be provided for excerpts from original literary works, children’s literature, culturally significant texts, or works in the humanities (philosophy, literary criticism, essays, and history). Only works already published in Lithuanian are eligible for submission.
Upon selection, Books from Lithuania ( VšĮ „Lietuviškos knygos“) will sign an agreement with the translator.
